St. Albans Cathedral
St. Albans Cathedral, formally the Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban, is located in the city of St. Albans in Hertfordshire, approximately 20 miles northwest of central London. The abbey was founded in 793 AD on the site of the martyrdom of Saint Alban, the first Christian martyr in Britain, and the present Norman building dates largely from the 11th and 12th centuries. The cathedral's long nave, constructed of Roman brick salvaged from the nearby ruins of Verulamium, is one of the longest in England, making it a building of exceptional historical and architectural importance.
