Shannon

Shannon, Republic of Ireland

Shannon is a town in County Clare on the west coast of Ireland, situated on the south bank of the Shannon Estuary close to where the river broadens significantly before reaching the Atlantic. It is best known as the location of Shannon Airport, Ireland's third busiest airport and the site of the world's first duty-free shop. The town itself was largely developed in the mid-20th century as a planned industrial and residential settlement to support the airport and associated free trade zone. Shannon is approximately 25 kilometres from Limerick city.
