Severn Valley Railway

Severn Valley Railway, Worcestershire, England

The Severn Valley Railway is a heritage steam railway running for sixteen miles along the valley of the River Severn between Kidderminster in Worcestershire and Bridgnorth in Shropshire. Opened in 1862 as a standard-gauge line, it was closed to regular services in the 1960s before being preserved and reopened by volunteers from 1970 onwards. The railway operates a large collection of steam and diesel locomotives and coaching stock, mostly of Great Western Railway origin, and is one of the largest and best-patronised heritage railways in the UK. Its principal stations include Bewdley, Arley, Highley, Hampton Loade, and Bridgnorth.
