Sark

Sark, Channel Islands

Sark is a small island and part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey in the English Channel, approximately seven miles east of Guernsey and approximately twenty-four miles from the coast of Normandy, France. The island covers approximately two square miles and has a population of approximately 500 people. Sark was until 2008 the last feudal state in Europe, governed under a system established by Queen Elizabeth I in 1565, before transitional reforms moved it towards a more democratic model. The island has no motorised vehicles other than tractors and is renowned for its dark skies, designated as one of the world's first Dark Sky Islands by the International Dark-Sky Association.
