Salts Mill

Salts Mill, Saltaire, Yorkshire, England

Salts Mill is the large Victorian textile mill at the heart of the Saltaire World Heritage Site in Bradford, West Yorkshire, built by Sir Titus Salt between 1851 and 1853. At the time of its completion it was the largest factory in the world, designed in the Italianate style to reflect Salt's aspiration to create an industrial enterprise of civic dignity. The mill ceased textile production in 1986 and was purchased in 1987 by Bradford businessman Jonathan Silver, who transformed it into a cultural and commercial complex. Today Salts Mill houses the world's largest permanent collection of work by artist David Hockney, alongside shops, galleries, and restaurants, making it one of Yorkshire's most visited attractions.
