Saddleworth
Saddleworth is a civil parish and historic area in the foothills of the Pennines, now administered as part of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham in Greater Manchester. The area comprises a number of distinct villages including Uppermill, Diggle, Greenfield, and Dobcross, set in a dramatic landscape of moorland, reservoirs, and steep-sided valleys. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Saddleworth was controversially transferred to Greater Manchester in 1974 and retains a strong sense of local identity. The area is known for its Whit Friday brass band contests, held annually across the villages.
