Rosslyn Chapel, formally the Collegiate Church of St Matthew, is a medieval chapel located in the village of Roslin in Midlothian, Scotland, approximately seven miles south of Edinburgh. Built between 1446 and 1484 for William Sinclair, first Earl of Orkney, the chapel is renowned for its exceptionally elaborate stone carvings, which cover virtually every surface and include the famous Apprentice Pillar. The chapel gained worldwide fame following its prominent role in Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code and the subsequent film adaptation. It is a Category A listed building and one of the most visited heritage attractions in Scotland.
