Roscommon

Roscommon, Republic of Ireland

Roscommon is an inland county in the province of Connacht in the west midlands of Ireland, bounded to the east by the River Shannon and its lakes, including Lough Ree. The landscape is characterised by low drumlin hills, bogland, pasture, and numerous lakes, with the Curlew Mountains in the north. Roscommon town is the county town, and the county is known for its Cistercian abbey ruins and Norman castle. It is one of Ireland's more sparsely populated counties.
