RAF Kenley

RAF Kenley

RAF Kenley, Surrey, England

RAF Kenley is a former Royal Air Force station on the North Downs in the London Borough of Croydon, Surrey, one of the most historically significant Battle of Britain airfields. It was one of the most heavily attacked stations during the Battle of Britain in August 1940, sustaining serious damage in a low-level raid that temporarily put it out of action. The airfield closed as an operational military station after the Second World War and the site is now used for gliding. The grass airfield and many original 1930s buildings survive, and the site has been designated as a scheduled ancient monument.
