Powys

Powys, Wales

Powys is the largest county in Wales by area, a vast, sparsely populated inland county occupying the mountainous heartland of the country. The county encompasses the Cambrian Mountains, the Brecon Beacons National Park in the south, and the upper reaches of major Welsh rivers including the Wye, Severn, and Tywi. Despite its great size, Powys has the smallest population of any county or unitary authority in Wales, with much of the landscape given over to upland sheep farming and open moorland. Welshpool and Brecon are among the county's principal market towns, while Llandrindod Wells serves as the county town.
