Powerscourt Estate

Powerscourt Estate, Wicklow, Republic of Ireland

Powerscourt Estate is a historic country house and garden estate located near Enniskerry in County Wicklow, approximately 20 kilometres south of Dublin. The house, an 18th-century Palladian mansion, was largely gutted by fire in 1974 but has since been partially restored and now houses a retail and visitor centre. The formal gardens, widely regarded as among the finest in Europe, were laid out in the mid-19th century and include terraced Italian gardens, a Japanese garden, and a walled kitchen garden, all set against a backdrop of the Great Sugar Loaf Mountain. The estate also encompasses Powerscourt Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Ireland at 121 metres.
