Oxford Prison
Oxford Prison, formally known as Her Majesty's Prison Oxford, was a Victorian prison located in the centre of Oxford. The prison was built in 1071 on the site of Oxford Castle and was used as a working jail until its closure in 1996. The castle mound and tower of St George's Tower, which date from the Norman period, survive within the prison complex. The site has since been redeveloped as a heritage and hotel complex known as Oxford Castle Quarter, which is open to the public.
