Offaly, Republic of Ireland

Offaly is an inland county in the midlands of Ireland in the province of Leinster, dominated by the vast expanse of the Bog of Allen and other raised boglands that have been extensively harvested for peat. The River Shannon and Lough Derg form its western boundary, and the Slieve Bloom Mountains rise to the southeast. Tullamore is the county town and home to the well-known Irish Mist and Tullamore DEW whiskey distilleries. The county is also crossed by the Grand Canal.
