Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire, England

Northamptonshire is an inland county in the East Midlands, often described as the heart of England due to its central location. The county is characterised by gently rolling ironstone hills, broad river valleys carved by the Nene and its tributaries, and a landscape of estate villages and country houses. Northampton, the county town, has historically been a centre of the boot and shoe manufacturing industry, and the county is also known for its many historic country estates and churches. The Grand Union Canal crosses the county, connecting London to Birmingham through a series of notable locks and tunnels.
