Much Wenlock is a small market town in the Shropshire Hills, situated in the Telford and Wrekin unitary authority approximately 8 miles southeast of Shrewsbury. The town is historically significant as the site of the Much Wenlock Olympian Games, established in 1850 by Dr William Penny Brookes, which are regarded as one of the inspirations for the modern Olympic Games revival. Much Wenlock retains a wealth of medieval and timber-framed architecture, including the ruins of Wenlock Priory managed by English Heritage.
