Moidart

Moidart, Highlands, Scotland

Moidart is a remote and scenic district on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, in the Lochaber area of Highland Council, situated between Loch Shiel and the Sound of Moidart. The area is closely associated with Jacobite history, particularly as the landing point of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745, and Castle Tioram, a ruined island fortress at the head of Loch Moidart, is one of the most atmospheric historic sites in the western Highlands. The landscape is characterised by ancient oak woodland, sea lochs, and mountain scenery, and the area remains largely unspoiled and sparsely populated.
