Mayo, Republic of Ireland

Mayo is a large county on the northwest Atlantic coast of Ireland in the province of Connacht, known for its wild and dramatic scenery. The coastline is deeply indented with bays and peninsulas, including Clew Bay, Achill Island, the largest island off the Irish coast, and the Mullet Peninsula. The interior contains bogland, mountains including Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holy mountain, and numerous lakes. Castlebar is the county town.
