Lower Wolvercote

Lower Wolvercote, Oxfordshire, England

Lower Wolvercote is a small village and suburb on the northern outskirts of Oxford, England, situated adjacent to the River Thames (known locally as the Isis) and Port Meadow, a large area of ancient common land. The village is distinct from the neighbouring settlement of Upper Wolvercote and lies close to the Godstow Lock and the ruins of Godstow Abbey, a 12th-century Benedictine nunnery. The Trout Inn, a historic riverside pub, is one of the most well-known landmarks in the area. Lower Wolvercote is within the administrative boundary of the City of Oxford.
