Lincolnshire, England

Lincolnshire is England's second-largest county, situated on the eastern coast and characterised by low-lying fenland, the chalk and limestone Lincolnshire Wolds, and a long North Sea coastline. The fens in the south of the county were drained from the 17th century onwards, creating some of the most productive arable farmland in Britain. Lincoln, the county town, stands on a limestone escarpment and is dominated by its magnificent Norman and Gothic cathedral, visible for many miles across the flat surrounding countryside. The county has strong associations with aviation history, having hosted numerous Royal Air Force stations during both World Wars.
