Kingdom of Fife

Kingdom of Fife, Scotland

The Kingdom of Fife is a historic designation for the peninsula county of Fife in eastern Scotland, reflecting its ancient status as a Pictish and later Scottish kingdom. The region is bounded on three sides by the Firth of Tay, the Firth of Forth, and the North Sea, giving it a strongly maritime identity. The East Neuk fishing villages, St Andrews with its medieval university and famous golf courses, and the ancient royal burgh of Dunfermline, once the capital of Scotland and the burial place of Robert the Bruce, are among its most celebrated features. The title Kingdom of Fife is still used colloquially and in some official contexts to reflect the region's distinct historical and cultural identity.
