Ilkley

Ilkley, Yorkshire, England

Ilkley is a spa town in the City of Bradford metropolitan district, West Yorkshire, situated in Wharfedale where the River Wharfe emerges from the Yorkshire Dales. The town became a fashionable Victorian spa resort following the discovery of spring waters, and retains a prosperous, genteel character with fine Victorian architecture, independent shops, and a reputation as one of the most desirable places to live in Yorkshire. Ilkley Moor, the open moorland above the town, is immortalised in the traditional Yorkshire anthem 'On Ilkla Moor Baht 'at' and is a popular destination for walkers, while the moor contains prehistoric carved rocks and the Twelve Apostles stone circle. The town is also famous for Betty's Tea Rooms and has strong connections to the moorland landscapes associated with the Brontë country.
