Hoyland

Hoyland is a small town in the metropolitan borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, situated approximately 5 miles north of Sheffield. The town includes the settlements of Hoyland Common and Jump, and the wider area includes Elsecar, home to a historic colliery and the Elsecar Heritage Centre, which preserves a working Newcomen-type atmospheric steam engine, one of the oldest of its kind still in its original location. The area has deep connections to the South Yorkshire coal and ironworking industries.
