Hayle is a small port town and civil parish in west Cornwall, England, situated at the south-eastern corner of St Ives Bay on the north Cornish coast approximately six miles north-east of Penzance. The town has an industrial heritage connected to copper smelting and the Harveys and Copperhouse foundries, which were major manufacturers of steam engines in the 18th and 19th centuries. The estuary of the River Hayle forms one of the most important wetland habitats in Cornwall and is a significant site for wading birds and wildfowl.
