Hawkinge Aerodrome
Hawkinge Aerodrome, officially known as RAF Hawkinge, is a former Royal Air Force station situated on a plateau above the town of Folkestone in Kent, England. It was one of the closest RAF stations to occupied France during the Second World War and played a significant role during the Battle of Britain in 1940, serving as a forward operating base for Fighter Command. The aerodrome closed as an active airfield after the war and much of the land has been redeveloped for housing. The Kent Battle of Britain Museum is located on part of the original site.
