Gwynedd
Gwynedd is a county in north-west Wales, encompassing some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the British Isles. Snowdonia National Park, which covers much of the county, contains Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the highest mountain in Wales and England at 1,085 metres, along with numerous other peaks, glacial lakes, and ancient slate quarrying landscapes. The LlÅ·n Peninsula extends south-westwards into the Irish Sea, and the county also includes the island of Anglesey, connected to the mainland by Thomas Telford's famous Menai Suspension Bridge. Gwynedd is one of the heartlands of the Welsh language, with a higher proportion of Welsh speakers than almost anywhere else in Wales.
