Greenock
Greenock is a town and former royal burgh on the south shore of the Firth of Clyde in the Inverclyde area of Scotland, approximately 30 kilometres west of Glasgow. The town was historically a major centre for shipbuilding and engineering, and the Clyde riverfront was lined with shipyards from the 18th century until the industry's decline in the late 20th century. Greenock is the birthplace of James Watt, whose improvements to the steam engine were instrumental in the Industrial Revolution. The town retains a distinctive Victorian town centre and a Custom House designed by William Burn.
