Glenfinnan Viaduct is a railway viaduct on the West Highland Line in the Scottish Highlands, situated at the head of Loch Shiel near the village of Glenfinnan in Lochaber. The viaduct was built by the contractor Robert McAlpine between 1897 and 1901 using mass concrete, one of the earliest uses of this material in large-scale engineering in Scotland. It consists of twenty-one arches and carries the railway line between Fort William and Mallaig at a height of approximately 30 metres. The viaduct achieved worldwide fame as the route taken by the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter film series.
