Glamorgan

Glamorgan, Wales

Glamorgan is a historic region and former county of South Wales, now divided into the unitary authorities of Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Cardiff, and Swansea. The region stretches from the industrial valleys of the south Wales coalfield in the north to the low-lying Vale of Glamorgan, with its Heritage Coastline of limestone cliffs along the Bristol Channel, to the south. Cardiff, the capital of Wales and its largest city, lies within the eastern portion of the region. Glamorgan was the powerhouse of the Welsh coal and iron industries during the 19th and early 20th centuries, and the region retains a strong industrial and cultural heritage.
