Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway
The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway is a heritage railway in North Yorkshire, operated by volunteers and running between Embsay station near Skipton and Bolton Abbey station in Wharfedale. The line was originally part of the Midland Railway's Grassington branch, opened in 1888 and closed by British Railways in 1965. Volunteers reopened the line in stages between 1968 and 1998, and the railway now operates heritage steam and diesel locomotives on a regular timetable. Bolton Abbey station is adjacent to the Bolton Abbey estate, a popular tourist destination with a ruined Augustinian priory beside the River Wharfe.
