Easington
Easington is a village and former urban district in County Durham, northeast England, situated on the Durham coast approximately 7 miles southeast of Sunderland. The village was historically dominated by Easington Colliery, one of the major coalfields on the Durham coast, which closed in 1993, and the local landscape reflects the industrial and social heritage of this mining community. The surrounding Durham Heritage Coast, now largely restored, features cliffs and beaches that were heavily affected by colliery spoil dumping but have been substantially cleaned up since the mine closures.
