Dover Castle

Dover Castle

Dover Castle, Dover, Kent, England

Dover Castle is a large medieval castle situated on the Eastern Heights above the town and port of Dover in Kent, overlooking the Strait of Dover and the English Channel. The castle was established by William the Conqueror following the Norman Conquest and has been expanded and modified over many centuries, making it one of the largest castle complexes in England. Its position on the White Cliffs has made it a strategically vital fortification throughout British history, and its tunnels were used as a wartime command post during both World Wars. The castle is now managed by English Heritage and is one of the most visited historic attractions in the south-east of England.
