Cave Hill

Cave Hill, Belfast, Antrim, Northern Ireland

Cave Hill is a basalt hill and country park overlooking Belfast in Northern Ireland, rising to 368 metres above sea level on the north-western edge of the city. The hill is topped by McArt's Fort, an ancient promontory fort where Wolfe Tone and his colleagues are said to have pledged to seek Irish independence in 1795. Belfast Castle, a Victorian Scottish Baronial building constructed in 1870, is situated on the lower slopes and is now a visitor centre and events venue. Cave Hill Country Park provides walking and recreational access across the hill's woodland and cliff faces, with panoramic views over Belfast and Belfast Lough.
