Caldey Island
Caldey Island (Ynys BÅ·r in Welsh) is a small island approximately 3 miles off the coast of Tenby in Pembrokeshire, Wales, owned and managed by a community of Reformed Cistercian monks who settled here in 1929. The island is one of Britain's holy islands with a monastic community stretching back to the 6th century; the monks continue to farm the island and produce perfumes, chocolate, and shortbread sold to visitors who arrive by boat from Tenby during the summer months. The island contains several historic buildings including St Illtud's Church with its distinctive leaning spire and remains of an Augustinian priory. Caldey is a place of great natural beauty and tranquillity, with wildflower meadows, coastal scenery, and abundant birdlife.
