Caerphilly Castle
Caerphilly Castle is a large medieval castle located in the town of Caerphilly in south Wales, approximately seven miles north of Cardiff. Built between 1268 and 1271 by Gilbert de Clare, it is one of the largest castles in Britain and among the largest in Europe, covering approximately 30 acres and incorporating an elaborate system of water defences including artificial lakes. The castle is renowned for its leaning tower, which leans at an angle greater than the Tower of Pisa due to deliberate undermining or subsidence, and is managed by Cadw as a historic monument open to the public.
