The county is home to Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British monarch, and the prestigious Royal Ascot racecourse. The landscape is varied, encompassing the North Wessex Downs, the Thames floodplain, and heathland around Bracknell. Reading is the county town and largest settlement.
