Belfast

Belfast, Antrim, Northern Ireland

Belfast is the capital and largest city of Northern Ireland, situated at the head of Belfast Lough where the River Lagan meets the sea. The city grew rapidly during the Industrial Revolution to become one of the world's leading centres of linen production and shipbuilding, with the Harland and Wolff shipyard responsible for the construction of the RMS Titanic. The city suffered significant conflict during the Troubles from the late 1960s to the 1990s but has undergone substantial regeneration and cultural investment since the Belfast Agreement of 1998. The Titanic Belfast museum and the Cathedral Quarter are among the principal attractions of a now thriving tourism economy.
