Bedford is a market town and unitary authority in Bedfordshire, England, situated on the River Great Ouse approximately fifty miles north of central London. The town has a long history as a market and county town and is the administrative centre of Bedford Borough Council. It is strongly associated with the Baptist preacher and writer John Bunyan, who was imprisoned in Bedford Gaol and wrote The Pilgrim's Progress there, and the Bunyan Museum in the town commemorates his life and work. Bedford has a significant Italian and South Asian community and is served by Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services to London.
