Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, is an open-air museum in County Durham, England, situated near Stanley approximately eight miles south-west of Gateshead. The museum depicts life in north-east England during the early 20th century and the Georgian era through a collection of relocated and reconstructed buildings, working tramways, farm animals, and costumed demonstrators. Its exhibits include a recreated colliery village, a market town street with shops and a pub, a 1950s housing estate, and a working farm. Beamish is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the north of England and has won numerous awards including European Museum of the Year.
