The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is the private members' club in Wimbledon, southwest London, that hosts the Wimbledon Championships, the world's oldest and most prestigious tennis grand slam tournament, each summer. The club's courts, including Centre Court with its retractable roof, form the largest grass court complex used in professional tennis. The club was founded in 1868 as a croquet club and first hosted the lawn tennis championships in 1877. The club grounds cover approximately 42 acres in Church Road, Wimbledon.
