Abbotsbury

Abbotsbury is a village in Dorset, England, situated on the southern slopes of the Bride Valley approximately nine miles west of Weymouth. The village is notable for Abbotsbury Swannery, a managed colony of mute swans established by Benedictine monks in the 11th century and one of only two managed swanneries in the world. Nearby Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens are also a major attraction, containing an extensive collection of rare and exotic plants. The village has a medieval tithe barn and the ruins of St Peter's Abbey, and lies close to the Chesil Beach shingle bank.
