Mr Burton

Marking the centenary of Richard Burton's birth, the film tells the true story of the formative relationship between Port Talbot schoolmaster Philip Burton and a gifted but undisciplined young Richard Jenkins. Philip recognises the boy's raw acting talent and becomes his strict tutor, mentor, and eventually his legal guardian, the man from whom Richard would take his famous surname. The film charts how this unlikely bond shaped one of the great theatrical careers of the twentieth century, set against the pressures of wartime Wales. Directed by Marc Evans.
