Colchester
Colchester is a city in Essex, England, widely regarded as Britain's oldest recorded town, with a history of continuous settlement stretching back to the Iron Age and serving as the first Roman capital of Britain under the name Camulodunum. The city contains significant Roman remains including sections of the Roman wall, a Roman circus, and the Norman castle built over the foundations of the Roman Temple of Claudius. Colchester received city status in 2022 as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, and the town is also home to a major British Army garrison.
