The Commitments
1991
A determined working-class Dubliner persuades a group of unemployed young people to form a soul band, convinced that playing classic American music will transform their lives and prospects. The film, based on Roddy Doyle's novel, is a boisterous and affectionate portrait of community spirit and musical passion in 1980s Dublin.
