Manchester
Manchester is a major city in Greater Manchester, northwest England, and one of the largest urban areas in the United Kingdom outside London. The city was a global pioneer of industrialisation in the late 18th and 19th centuries and became the world's first industrialised city, its cotton mills and related industries giving rise to the nickname Cottonopolis. Today Manchester is a vibrant centre of commerce, culture, education, and sport, home to the University of Manchester, two major Premier League football clubs, and a rich musical heritage.
