Angus

Angus, Scotland

Angus is a council area on the east coast of Scotland, lying north of the Firth of Tay between Dundee and the Cairngorm foothills. The county's landscape ranges from the fertile Strathmore valley, one of the most productive agricultural lowlands in Scotland, through the Sidlaw Hills to the dramatic red sandstone sea cliffs and fishing villages of the Angus coast. Glamis Castle, childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and a place of great antiquity, stands in the fertile vale of Strathmore. Forfar is the county town, while Arbroath is famous for its ruined abbey, where the Declaration of Arbroath was signed in 1320 asserting Scottish independence.
