West Midlands

The West Midlands is a metropolitan county in central England, forming the country's most urbanised region outside Greater London. The county is dominated by the conurbation known as the Black Country, centred on Birmingham, the UK's second-largest city, along with Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, and West Bromwich. Birmingham was a world centre of manufacturing during the Industrial Revolution, particularly in metalworking, jewellery, and engineering, giving rise to the phrase the workshop of the world. Today the county is a major hub for commerce, manufacturing, and the creative industries, and successfully hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
