Greater Manchester
Greater Manchester is a metropolitan county in North West England, centred on the conurbation built up around the cities of Manchester and Salford. The county is largely urban and industrial in character, shaped by its pivotal role in the Industrial Revolution as a centre of cotton spinning and manufacturing. It is bounded by the Pennines to the north and east, which provide moorland landscapes within easy reach of the city. Manchester is a major cultural, financial, and commercial centre, home to two of England's most prominent football clubs.
