Hardwick Hall

Hardwick Hall, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England

Hardwick Hall is a magnificent Elizabethan country house built between 1590 and 1597 for Bess of Hardwick, one of the wealthiest and most powerful women of the Elizabethan era. Located near Chesterfield in Derbyshire, the hall is now managed by the National Trust and is celebrated for its remarkable architecture, particularly its vast windows which gave rise to the saying 'Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall'. The interiors house an outstanding collection of tapestries, embroideries, and furniture, and the surrounding estate includes formal gardens and a country park.
