Rest and Be Thankful

Rest and Be Thankful, Arrochar, Argyll & Bute, Scotland

The Rest and Be Thankful is a scenic mountain pass located on the A83 road in Argyll and Bute, situated between Arrochar and Inveraray, reaching over 260 metres above sea level through Glen Croe in the Arrochar Alps. Its name originates from the 18th century, when soldiers constructing the original military road inscribed 'Rest and Be Thankful' on a stone at the summit to mark the arduous climb. The pass is both a popular tourist viewpoint offering panoramic Highland scenery and a vital transport corridor, though it is frequently affected by landslides that can close the road and cause significant diversions.
