Newhaven
Newhaven is a port town in the Lewes district of East Sussex, at the mouth of the River Ouse. The town developed during the Middle Ages when the nearby port of Seaford began drying up. Newhaven Fort was built on Castle Hill on the recommendation of the 1859 Royal Commission to defend the growing harbour. Newhaven still provides regular ferry services and continues to be used as an important freight terminal.
